Street Market

Description

The busy citizens would hardly ever stop to listen to a merchant, however, this one had such mysterious offers, one couldn't help but be drawn to his voice, impossible to describe, and inspiring both trust and wariness.

"Come one, come all; those who find an item they wish for here, truly will need it..."

Wow, that one was... surprisingly not that much work at all. It was very fun. And I think I may have broken the blockage I have with backgrounds. May have.

Anyways, the main character on this pic is Drake Hack, black marketeer, or, as he calls himself, exotic merchant extraordinaire. Extremely flighty, he is a difficult fellow to get the upper hand on, what with an uncanny ability of his to always be at the right places at the right time, and always have everything right for the situation right up his sleeve (inb4 that's a lot of "right" in the same sentence). No one knows how he does it, but he does it. Not one living soul has ever seen his face; he keeps a draconian mask on his face at all times.

Either way. I wanted to experiment with shadows, so I made every "object" in the scene monochrome, each a different colour. I had intended to make everything the same colour, but changed my mind as I was filling in Drake. I think it turned out alright, but I'm sure it could've turned out even better.

Stuff I'd like critique on:
Shadows, effect of colour, poses, background, perspective.

Wow, neat picture =3 I love the way you've done the posing. The way the merchant is standing really makes him look like someone that would catch your attention.

Something I'd mention though is that the platform the merchant and the people watching him are standing on seems odd to me. It looks a bit like it's from a higher viewpoint than the people themselves, so it makes it look like the ground is tilted to the bottom of the screen like a ramp. If you had brought the side of the balcony wall there down a bit farther and drawn the objects on the carpet from a more straight-on point of view, it would have matched up better with the perspective the people are drawn from. Though I have to say even without that it's very impressive @.@ I could never draw such an interesting background XD I like the way you drew in the street below with the pool. It adds a lot to making the scene look like a market place.

As for the color, I like the way you highlighted the objects he's selling with bright colors, it really draws your eyes in. But in my opinion, the colors' effect might have been stronger if you shaded the street in a bit darker. The colors would pop more and not be dulled in comparison to the white around them.

Overall though, this is a really nicely done piece =3 Good job~ I hope my advice helped a little bit, and good luck with your other artworks ^^!
